to Madison Tables Works! This shop is an "Art Gallery" in every sense of the words. However, it’s not like any other gallery you've ever been to. In writting about this shop, I found it difficult to explain in mere words. There’s something about the atmosphere and the tactile sensation which you wont fully understand until you've actually toured the gallery, sat down at one of these magnificent tables, and felt the wood with your own hands.
It’s not a library, so don’t be afraid to talk, ask questions, and enjoy the conversation. Robert’s got stories about the building, local history, even stories about all the artisans whos work is on display.
Art galleries in New York are as cold and barren as existentialist philosophy is on purpose. In New York, galleries are designed to embody emptiness, to focus the audience's attention on the art. That’s not what you’ll find here. There’s warm glow of candles, afternoon sunlight, and the beauty of natural wood grain that brings me back in touch with life. I've always loved the look of natural wood.
Robert is the owner of this shop and the artisan responsible for creating each of the unique
natural wood tables by hand. He's a very nice guy and always ready to introduce the art on display
and for sale, and show off his latest creation. Robert is currently only selling his work within a
limited driving distance. He treats each table with extraordinary care and insists on personally
delivering and installing each table on location himself!
Everything here is a work of art. Shopping here is truly a unique experience. Everything here sells
itself. No sales pitch needed. Shoppers browse around and wonder at the extraordinary beauty. In fact one
would be surprised at how quiet people can be at times. As if they were touring
St.
Peter’s Basilica in Rome, in awe of the shear enormity of art, craft, and diligence the
architecture, sculpture and painting. Everywhere one looks, wondering how many hours, days, weeks, months,
years and entire human lives spent in the pursuit of something intangible, something that connects to the
spiritual instincts within us all.
